Hot Water Systems on the Gold Coast

No hot water is one of those problems that goes from annoying to urgent in about a day. We diagnose what has actually failed, tell you whether it is worth repairing, and replace the unit properly when it is not.

About our hot water systems work

A hot water system is usually the most expensive plumbing item in a Gold Coast home, and it rarely fails without warning. Water that runs lukewarm, a tank that takes far longer to recover than it used to, or rust weeping from the base are all signs the unit is coming to the end of its working life.

Not every fault means a new system. Valves, connections and plumbing components can often be repaired at a fraction of the cost of a replacement unit. What matters is an honest look at the age and condition of the tank before you spend money on it, because putting a new part into a corroded tank only buys a few months.

We handle the plumbing side of electric storage hot water systems. Electrical faults — elements, thermostats and wiring — need an appropriately licensed electrician, and where that is what your unit needs we will tell you plainly rather than working outside our scope.

Common causes

  • An electrical fault in the unit, which needs a licensed electrician
  • Sediment build-up inside the tank reducing capacity
  • A tempering or relief valve that has stopped working correctly
  • Corrosion through the tank wall on an older unit
  • Loose or corroded connections at the inlet and outlet
  • Exposure to salt air, which can shorten the life of external units

How Plumbino approaches the job

We start with what you can tell us on the phone — the age of the unit and what has changed. That often tells us what to bring.

On site we check the tank, valves, connections and the surrounding area for leaks before deciding anything. If the fault is a plumbing component and the tank is sound, we quote the repair.

Where the fault looks electrical, we will say so and recommend an appropriately licensed electrician rather than working outside our licence.

If the tank itself has failed, we explain the replacement options and the cost before any work starts. You decide, not us.

Replacements are installed to the relevant Australian plumbing standards, and removal of the old unit can be discussed as part of the replacement.

Your options

Repair

Valve and connection repairs where the tank is still in good condition. Whether repair makes sense depends on the unit's age, condition, the fault itself, parts availability and the cost of the repair.

Replacement

A like-for-like or upgraded system supplied and installed, with removal of the old unit discussed as part of the job.

Checks and advice

Valve checks and a general condition report so you can plan a replacement rather than be caught out by one.

Why it pays to sort it early

A weeping hot water tank rarely stops on its own. Left alone it can soak a wall frame, damage flooring or short out nearby electrical equipment, and it will almost always fail completely at the least convenient moment. Getting it looked at while it is still a drip keeps the job small.
